17x9et35-38 is doable, but there aren't many wheels out there in that spec. If you don't mind aggressive camber, lots of poke, stretched tires, and/or rolling the hell out of the fenders, you might even be able to run as low as a 17x9et20, but there might still be some rubbing.
I'm actually just doing this so I can run 255/40 square. I have a 18x8.5 setup right now and I think 255/35 might sacrifice the sidewalls a bit.
