Called Chamberlain (thanks, zxq10guy) and yes, I do need a bridge. Apparently, the combination of Homelink and that particular opener doesn't work without it. Our '01 Odyssey (older, so OK, I guess) can't be programmed to it either, but our '12 Volvo can. Go figure.
