I got through this winter on 18" rims, but in hindsight, I wish I had gone with 17's for winter. Although it was not on my M240, I have bent a rim in the past. I took a couple of hits this past winter which made me cringe. I'm back on my summer tires now as it's getting too warm to keep soft winter rubber on, but MANY roads in the area have yet to be repaired. I wouldn't do 19's unless you have another set to get you into May/June when the roads are in better shape. Potholes are nearly impossible to spot in the dark if it's been raining.
Seriously, hop on 93N right now. There are some huge craters in the far left and far right lanes coming out of the city.
