You have lots of options for tire height and width combinations, as a result you will get different looks and performance results from these measurements. Some of these tires are lighter than others, also some companies make tires that run on the small or larger side of the listed specs.

Lots of people use the 235/40 because it’s a tried and true combination, some guys that track theirs cars run the slightly wider 245/35 or 255/35 tire since they’re looking for the most amount of front end grip posible.
