No kidding.

I've owned many Volvos, going back to the 1960s, and most recently a 2006 V70R.

At this late date, if reliability is your principal focus, my suggestion is to solely consider Japanese and/or Korean cars. Volvos are not what they once were.

Today, my fun car is my M240i. I bought it because it could be halfway decent at the track, and it was. I also bought it because it is in almost every way today's personification of my grey-market 1985 M635CSi. I didn't realize that when I bought the M240i, but that's been reinforced to me almost every time I now drive it; and, as an "old car guy", it's made me appreciate my car all the more.

The daily driver my wife and I drive is her 2015 Mazda 3 2.5l 6-speed hatchback, which just happens to be a pretty darn nice car in its own right. Truly, go Mazda!

I have numerous friends who can afford whatever they might choose. Most have chosen Japanese and Korean SUVs (yes, we're in the Midwest), while their wives have chosen German SUVs. The husbands all comment, very politely, upon how much more it costs to maintain their wives' German SUVs. No kidding.
