Even with the M2 lower airbox, you'll see an increase in IATs of 10+ degrees over the sealed stock airbox when sitting at lights.

An open intake? Freaking hot. I've been modding cars since 1995 and tested all sorts of intakes on my cars both on the dyno and strip. All open and CAI intakes made my cars (1994 Z28, G35, Maxima, WRX) slower in the 1/4 mile, especially in the first 330' ET/MPH. The best performing intakes on these cars was the stock airbox with a slight cut out (similar to the M2 lower airbox).
I've seen 20F above ambient in stop and go traffic. I've had open intakes in all my cars, and they have always performed better.

From my dyno tested long tube intake on my KA24DE Altima, Z3s, to my Injen Intake on my E90, and now on my M235i. I have a lower WGDC, lower IATs, more power and better throttle response than the stock box.
