My E46 M3 was great until about 100,000 miles. Then it was a major headache. The fact that you had to get the valves set manually also cost a fortune.

My first BMW was a 1971 2002 that I bought new. It was a great car for the time but was more of a kit car than a complete reliable daily driver.

The steering on the older BMWs was much more responsive than todays electronic steering. But my M2 has the best feeling I have seen in years. The M2 has much more torque and engine response than any other BMW I have owned. So I stand by my decision of wanting to keep my current M2 over all the previous BMWs I have owned.
