I think the machined look nicely contrast against the gloss black. Maybe I would feel differently if my car was white. But I've been observing the dust contrast as you've pointed out and oddly it does give it a little more depth.
I should note that I changed both front and rear pads to ceramic pads to reduce the ungodly amount of dust. The new pads have reduced the dust by ~70% with no perceivable loss in stopping power.
