After BMW replaced my second transmission (and I was ripped off $4800 for a new clutch & flywheel) I simply stopped driving my iM235 like a sports car it was advertised: now I downshift at lower RPMs, wait for the revs to drop between 1st and 2nd shifts, hardly ever use first gear etc:
From my personal experience BMW transmissions & clutches are not designed for longevity and robustness, but to be replaced frequently while you're getting gouged paying Ferrari-like prices for parts & labour.
