Not sure of the sound will any better than the stock 228i exhaust. Should I hold out for an M235i performance exhaust?
Against it. It adds complexity and weight for which there is no return on investment. Dual exhaust might look good, but provide no appreciable performance benefit IMO. This goes for the M2 dual exhaust as well. Purely cosmetic.

If you are considering an upgrade, I would recommend removing your stock downpipes and replace it with an after market downpipe without restrictive cats first to improve power. You will notice a nice growl from the stock exhaust as it tries to grapple with the extra amount of air it has to handle.

If your less aggressive an axle back would be okay. You get the growl with a marginal performance gain.

I am currently interested in the Dinan axle back exhaust because I live in the United Socialist Republic of California and they have eco nazis working at the DMV and where you get exhaust gases measured for having downpipes!
