I might be wrong but I dont think it's normal at all for the n55 to consume coolant. My coolant level hasn't moved in about 3years. Also, you mention a burning smell. If it's a sweet smell from your exhaust then you are likely burning coolant and you should have it inspected right away. Hopefully it's just a leaky hose.
