Thanks aerobod - I tried the codes you have shown. Two questions:

When you show a value like 'werte 07', I see a value that says '0x06'. Am I changing that to '0x07'?

Also, when coding is in process and I get the 'restarting ECU' message I don't always see my instrument panel reset. Does that mean the ECU isn't restarting and is that affecting the coding?
doesn't the light switch need to be set to auto for this to work if i remember correctly ?
Yes. Mine is. I've also tried in 'on'. It's very strange, I haven't seen anyone have an issue coding the DRLs on so I'm not sure what I'm missing.
You also have to set it on idrive. There is some setting in lighting
