Despite what jpnh says, I have always used Mobil 1 full synthetic oil and have never had any issues with it. I used this:

It was the only 0w-20 oil that the Exchange stocked at the time (not sure if they have others now or not) over here in Germany. It was either I buy that, or I go off base and spend 15 Euro per quart of some 0w-20 oil brand I've never heard of. I already had to spend 20 euro for the filter from the bmw dealer so I was 1) trying to keep costs done some 2) sticking with a brand that I knew was good.
