If your brake lights are not on (brake pedal sensor) it wont let you stay in reverse and open the door.
I put a stick on the brake pedal, pull the ebrake HARD, and then I can get out of the car. If your ebrake lets go, your car is going to keep going backwards until it hits something so do this at your own risk. I also only do it once the car is warmed up (I'm worried the higher rpm during cold start warmup will overcome the ebrake)
