Sorry for the slow response! The 17x8.5 ET40 is a direct bolt-on fitment with a couple of caveats:
  • The rear brake fitment will be really close or may touch the wheel if you are using stock OE brake pads with the vibration dampener. This dampener can be trimmed or removed to create clearance. In the case of Jake's car above the wheel just barely cleared with the pad unmodified. If you are running aftermarket pads, most don't have the anti-vibration part and should clear with no issues.
  • These wheels will not fit the optional 370mm brake kits on the M235/M240. They will clear the base 340mm Brembo brakes on the M235/40.

These wheels don't require spacers to clear. Depending on the coilover you choose, you may need to run a spacer in the front.

They may not be the best setup for winter if snow builds up inside the barrel of the wheels as their brake clearance is much worse than 18s.
