Active Tourer Battery Charge
My question : Can anyone share their knowledge/experience about having a non-BMW auto shop install a battery in the Active Tourer and whether it is reasonable to assume that installation procedures these days include the registration of the battery once installed (essential apparently if the start/stop system etc are to continue working)?
The background info :
During a recent service, BMW told me my battery wasn't fully charged and that I should either charge it (with a charger) or do a long motorway drive of about 200km.
There is no battery warning light when I start the car.
I have done a couple of trips of about 70km and some smaller city trips on the same day. The following morning, with the engine off, I measured the voltage at exactly 12V.
I have a charger now and can also try to recharge the battery that way.
If needed, BMW quoted me a new battery at a hefty €600.
However, I see a compatible Varta E39 (with excellent reviews) is about €240 including installation.
Armed with any useful info you provide, I will of course double-check with the auto shop.
Many thanks.
