With a i6 in an m235i the M2 must have a i6, don't you think? And the CLA 45 created the most powerful 4 with 355 hp i really dont think BMW will go for a 4 just to beat that record for the M2.
I'm going to guess that the M2 will focus primarily on efficient dynamics.

So lighter weight, lighter engine, but with good power figures. A 4 cylinder M car would make an awesome addition and be a hell of a car that a lot of enthusiasts would be waiting for
