It's the factory ground, so there are other wires from the car grounded to that point. I"ve never had a problem with it. You can create any ground point, as long as it's on the chassis and bare metal. You'll probably want to paint over it if you drill a hole or scuff off the paint. I just found it clean and convenient to use the factory one.
