Don't go for a performance downgrade to save $$ - it isn't just about longevity. A few hundred more will be worth it over time for the improved driving enjoyment. And don't mix styles front/rear if you can help it.
FWIW, Continental ExtremeContacts were cheaper than MP4S, comparable performance (perhaps even better in wet), and I found them to not chew up the outer fronts as badly as I heard for the MPSS (never actually ran those myself to directly compare). I was very happy with these until I switched up to something more track-ready.
