BMW E36 17x7.5, 17x8.5 OEM Staggered LTW Original Rims

I have a full set of OEM LTW rims from well, my M3 LTW.

Trying to fit these on a 228i with Track Package upgraded brakes

I read carefully, and it seemed logical that their 40 offset was OK, and people had used 17's in 8.5 in the back with offset 40 successfully with 255/40, my target for rear snows. (I had a set of un-mounted 255/40 R17 practically new lying around, as well as a set of 225/45 R17's for the fronts, tho, those were mounted on wrong offset (20) rims from a friend.)

NOPE.

The M3 LTW OEM rims do not clear the rear caliper sufficiently. There is about 2 hairs worth of clearance, and certainly not for the inner row of weights placed in that usual location.

Didn't bother to check the front, the rim's inner shape precludes its use.

Bummed.
