It depends on what you are trying to achieve with weight loss, but if it is for hard track use, it is better starting with a light car to begin with and add power, as opposed to starting with a powerful car and trying to lose weight. I would class a light car as being something below 1000kg / 2200 lbs, not many cars that are currently produced can meet that criteria.

If it is just for a lighter car for road use, I'm not sure if it is worth lightening a car for the marginal benefits vs the major downsides in terms of cost, noise, reliability, resale value and loss of integrated systems due to the best weight saving coming from stripping everything from the interior other than the drivers seat and controls.
