It's all about marketing. BMW created a "limited edition" that dealers can sell as something that is rare and buyers will want it because it's "special". The prospective BMW buyer market goes way beyond the BMW "enthusiasts" that populate this forum and others like it. The car wasn't developed for folks like us who know all the ins and out about the various 2 Series models and M Performance accessories and available mods, etc., but for the guys and gals who walk into the showroom to buy their first new BMW and see several "plain Jane" 2 Series and then see the "one" M240i M Performance Edition too.
