Did you manage to figure out what went wrong? I'm experiencing the exact same problem (but much lower volume) in my 2015 M235i as well (Canada Spec). Feels like a supercharger whine. I'm hoping its not a timing chain or turbo. If it's just fluid then it shouldnt be too hard to handle.
