It sounds like the sheriff's department is jumping the gun just like the media did when they put out stories without any sense of the actual facts.
Would it make sense to check cell phone records, black box recorder, dash cam video (if available), toxicology report, before rendering a conclusion. I mean, wait a day or two and get it right.
