A 8.5" rim is not necessary to run 245/35R18s and most 8.5" rims for these cars have crappy offsets which then force you to run spacers and/or stretch or run narrower front tires.

Agreed. Stay with an 8" wide wheel for the square set up using 245s. I have 245/35-18s with et 45 that work; have used also these 3mm and 5mm spacers in front. Also now have 245/40-17 et 43; they also work well with the 3mm spacers for an et of 40.
The 8.5 wheel with the 245 will likely require some modifications like adjusting the camber. I didn't want to do that.
