For what it's worth, I'm running 245/40/17 on 17x8 wheels and am having a ton of fun with it. Stock suspension too. Agree with the other guys that a wider wheel is ideal for this tire width, but I also like having the extra grip over the 225 mm. The stiff sidewalls on the RE71r means tire response is still great.
The reason I did this is so I could get a square setup to rotate my tires easily, since I have an xdrive.
