True about the 10% loss in width, but I'm not looking at winning races, just improve my driving skills and best my own lap times. When i hit the track, I'm only racing myself. I would imagine traction gains with an extreme performance tire would make up for the narrower width as well.

Do you think I could fit a 18" 245 re71 or azenis up front without modification?

The Falken seems to getting good reviews (see tire rack) for average/novice drivers like me, but I can see the argument for the RE-71 for a more advanced driver. Price for the 18 x 225 is $183 vs $130/tire.

If I go down to 17" wheels, do you recommend a 245/40 or 245/45?

I would do 245-40-17 that's the best size that will keep similar diameter to stock

Not sure if 18 would fit depending on the tire height

Also 17 tires will be cheaper.

Else just do 225 al around, those will sure fit but 245 should fit with a ET40-42 wheel offset
