This is a DIY guide for anyone retrofitting an NBT EVO HU and maintaining ConnectedDrive services in a car that originally has the EntryNav2 or EntryNavEvo HU with the ATM (Advanced Telematics Module). The easiest way to check if your car is equipped with an ATM is to read the SVT in E-Sys and you'll see if you have an ATM or TCB module.

After getting help from and talking with shawnsheridan I decided to write this post to help people with an ATM.

Parts:
NBT EVO HU
New screen that works with NBT EVO(I tried to get the old 6.5" screen to work, but couldn't so I decided to get the 10.25" screen from the G30 5er (I'll be trying to 3d print and mount so i'll be writing a post about that as well))
new CID cable for NBT (CID cable for entry series of HUs don't work with NBT series of HUs)
OABR connector - part num: 61138709112 (Originally there was a black connector but now has been superseded by a green coloured connector and from my experience its much more cheaper buying this from the dealer)
Attachment 3943328
Bushing contact, NanoMQS - part num: 61139230107 (The contacts of the OABR lines coming from the FEM are a different size and won't fit the new OABR connector)

Step 1 - Editing FA/VO
1.1 - In the coding view, under Vehicle Order press 'Read'
1.2 - press Edit, then select the SALAPA-Element
1.3 - In the salapa-element box below find and replace '606' with '609'

Step 2 - Rewiring OABR ethernet lines between FEM - HU
These wires allow us to flash the HeadUnit and code it as well.
I'd say these 2 photos are enough to understand which pins to repin and where
Attachment 3943329

Step 3 - Coding the HeadUnit
At this point when you power up the HU it will most likely enter component protection mode as there is a mismatch in the HU VIN and the VIN being sent from the FEM, to clear it just change the HU VIN to the car's VIN and write the new FSC for 0x170, to do this:
3.1 - connect to car with E-Sys
3.2 - click on FSC Extended under the Expert mode tab
3.3 - enter 0x63 in the Diagnostic Address box and press identify, it should now show HU_NBT2
3.4 - Add the WriteDataByIdentifierVIN job and enter your car's VIN when prompted and press start
3.5 - Now remove the WriteDataByIdentifierVIN job and add the StoreFSC and CheckFSC jobs and press the (...) next to the FSC file input and select the FSC file to remove component protection, the Application Number and Upgrade Index should now be populated, press start
3.6 - now go back to the coding view and press 'Read' under SVT in the SVT box you should now see HU_NBT2 as a module, just right click and select 'code'
Attachment 3943327
you can now write the other new FSCs

Step 4 - Wiring the ATM
These wires allow the ATM to send GPS and ConnectedDrive messages to the HU.
I'd say this photo would give enough info to repin the cables from the small 6-pin OABR to the 20-pin OABR
Attachment 3943326

Step 5 - Updating ConnectedDrive
Enter the ConnectedDrive menu and press the option button
Select Update BMW Assist
You should now be able to provision your car in the MyBMW app

Good luck on your retrofits :), I don't think I'm missing any steps but I guess time will tell. If you guys have any other questions feel free to ask below.

I forget the name of the specific product we bought, but I have searched for similar for our new convertible with no luck.

We have a 2019 230i xDrive convertible with the Premium Pkg and we have the folding mirrors and auto-up/down top function from the keyfob working. But you have to be close to the car and hold the button.

The older car hack allow you to release once it started and walk away.

Any idea if this is available for the newer cars?

Its finally warming up on the East Coast and I am itching to give the black G80 a good detailing. This includes wash, clay, 2-Step correction to get rid of the swirls and minor scratches from the nasty winter we had. Then finally do a ceramic coating. But of course the nasty green dust has started to coat everything in sight as well as trigger allergies. Should I wait to do this once the trees and grasses have finally stopped pushing out pollen or is it OK to do the coating since it gets mostly wiped off once it sets up? I don't have a garage so its gonna be outside. Helpful tips appreciated.

As someone who has owned a few BMWs over the years, is it just me or does it feel like quality has been significantly downhill? I just got a 2026 X7 and while I'm washing the car a lot of parts just feel very plastic-y and loose, more so than in the past. For example the tow hook cover on the back bumper is pretty loose and so are some of the door handles. While this may be 'minor' it's still a $100k car. For reference I've previously had 2015 2series, 2018 x1, 2021 x3 (progression of starting a family) and having hand washed those cars myself the difference seems pretty stark.

On the X7, one issue I had is the door trim is loose, which seems like a part defect. At the dealer we walked around the showroom and every car had the same issue with the trim being loose and coming off from the car. I can't imagine it was an intentional design.

Definitely makes me think twice for future cars, the other question is what brand would be alternative.

The paint chip looks normal. It was the snag on the microfiber wash mitt that told me this was not the typical chip. I verified that it is not paint, i.e. a sharp leftover edge. My iPhone did a decent job confirming this.

So, what do I do? I don't want tap the shard flat - that will leave an odd blemish - after touchup - at best; a good spot for rust to form, at worst. Part of me wants to get out the Dremel and that fine-pointed stone and (gulp) grind that burr away. The other part of me keeps saying, "Dude, this is a 2023 BMW and you are not that good."
Thoughts?

I have OEM Style 719 wheels, 18x7.5, ET45. (all 4 of my Style 719 wheels are 7.5" even though style 719 did come with a specific rear wheel of size 18x8 :confused2).

Style 719 Fronts have Pirelli Cinturato P7 A/S RF - 225/40/18
Style 719 Rears have Cont. ECS 02 - 225/40/18

Style 719 wheels and tire weights (uncallibrated scales but close enough for me):
Fdriver - #45.6
Fpassenger - #44.8
Rdriver - #47
Rpassenger - #45.6
Total = #183

last fall I purchased 4 new Apex SM-10, 18x8.5, ET 35 (flow formed, not forged). After a couple emails with Apex they CONFIRMED IN WRITING these SM-10 would each weigh around 18.4 lbs. After trying multiple scales, every SM-10 were 19.6lbs. each. That is more than 6% more than claimed weight! I was frustrated but I accepted it and moved on...(future buyers beware)

After alot of thought about my anticipated driving style, I installed new Vredestein Ultrac Pro (Max perf. summer) 235/40/18 on all 4 Apex SM-10. Each Ultrac Pro was exactly #22.4 new. They were roadforce balanced and the most balance square weights i counted were 4 on one wheel (all other wheels had 3 or less) so I was happy about that.

Apex SM-10 w/Vredestein Ultrac Pro weights(uncallibrated scales but same scales on same day):
Fdriver- #43
Fpassenger - #42.8
Rdriver - #43
Rpassenger - 42.8
Total = #171.6

I lost 11.4 lbs of rotational and unsprung weight even though these wheels are over 13% wider than the OEM style 719 and the tires are one size larger.

I could actually FEEL the difference instantly.

Observations:
stock suspension, no special camber, and ZERO rubbing.
comes up to speed noticeably quicker with light throttle acceleration. Have not tried WOT runs yet.
Road bumps/imperfections that were borderline harsh with Pirellis and ECS's are now just perceptible. I do still have all the feedback of road grooves and contours but just much less noise, harshness.
Steering is quicker/sharper (I understand almost anything will be better than cinturato RF's)
Feels more agile, MUCH quieter and less rolling resistance.
Cornering - not quite the same as ECS 02's. With the Ultrac Pro's, you can feel the sidewall bend but then they grip and don't push. I carried the same speeds around the same bends compared to the smaller Pirelli's and ECS's but with just a little more drama coming from the Ultrac's. With the ECS's, I just did not feel the sidewall bend at all while they cornered.

Drove 400+ miles to Philladelphia and back. SMOOTH and quiet on the 4 lane. Currently on Stage 2 and I averaged 30-31 mpg while rolling 70-80.

Negative: The 18's don't look as good as 19's. But for me the rotating weight reduction was more important.

Anyone willing to post the weight of their 19" wheel/tire combo?

This is my $0.02. Hope this helps someone with their decisions in the future.

Up for sale a 1997 E36 M3 Coupe with luxury package on Dakar Yellow II exterior and Mulberry interior color.

In 2014 – 2022, it is mostly driven in California for a short drive to/from work every other Fridays occasionally. I almost never driven the car in the rain. Hence, the undercarriage is very clean. This is my second car and I have other car as the daily transport. Originally planned to keep the car for my retirement years and enjoy to drive a simple classic car (light weight, compact size, no complicated electronics & sensors or interruptions from driving assistance features, and very simple to maintain with less parts that can possibly go wrong), however, my life situation has recently changed and now need to prepare for a transfer to overseas station.

I have owned and maintained several E36 M3s since 2008 until purchased this beauty in mid 2014 with about 88k miles from the 1st owner, a mature senior family man of heart surgeon doctor and a pilot. He purchased the car under BMW European delivery program back in 1997.

I am the second owner of a low population 1997 BMW M3, 5-speed manual with 99899 miles (may go up a little) on Dakar Yellow II over Mulberry Leather (1 of 3 in this exterior/interior color combination out of 516 Dakar Yellow II). This is one of the reason I kept it stock (usually a coilover, brace, and intake is a must to drive items on my previous E36s). Vin numbers on panels matches, no accident other than a very minor parking lot fender bender in a gated parking lot at my work place while the car is parked (I have pictures of the damage), which left a quarter size dent on the driver side rear quarter panel and scuff and chip paint on driver side rear view mirror and door. During the repair, I decided to replace all the rubber/plastic seals/trims as well. It costs around $2000 in genuine BMW parts alone back in 2018 or at least now doubled in price of those parts today. I planned to replace the door sill cover, however, it just never happened.

It has a clean California title and has been garaged for most of its lifetime during my ownership and previous owner. Car is very clean for its age and has been very well taken care of throughout its life.

No modifications other than the BBS RC wheels I luckily came across right after obtaining the car. I still have the original BMW contour wheels. OEM Contour wheels are in slightly rough shape but could definitely be restored. Originally a California car until Nov 2022 when I had to transferred to Texas.

Maintenance History:
Engine: No issues, no modification, stock.
Always replaced engine oil with liqui moly Top Tec 5w-30 fully synthetic motor oil on every oil change 5000 miles or 6 months along with OEM / OEM brand engine oil filter.
Feb 2026: New air filter and Battery
2015: replaced belts and tensioners, valve cover gasket and grommets, spark plugs, and fuel filter.

Front Suspension:
Sept 2015: replaced with OEM front control arm, control arm bushings, inner and outer tie rods, boots, sway-bar bushings and end links.

Rear Suspension:
2015: replaced rear trail arm bushings

Drivetrain: Manual 5-speed transmission. Rear differential oil replaced in 2015 and last replaced in 2022

Interior: Comes with Premium package and Sport package options.
Pros: It has front heated seats, sport seats with thigh support, HK audio system, multi CD magazine in the trunk, mulberry leather interior (extremely rare) and wood panels. There are only 2 dakar yellow II /mulberry leather interior E36 M3 with sport seats and 1 dakar yellow II /mulberry leather interior E36 M3 with vader seats produced out of the BMW factory.
Cons: Headliner will need to be repaired / re-upholstered due to its age
Wood trim on center consol is missing (this is the condition when I purchased from 1st owner)
Normal wear and tear on driver side upper seat rest bolster
Glovebox cover may need to be re-glued but not necessary. Normal with its age
Radio is working fine, however, screen pixels is not working and needs to be repaired (common issue with BMWs in the 90s).

Exterior: Most of the aging weather seals/strips rubber/plastic parts had been replaced in May of 2018. Items replaced were: front windshield cowl, front and rear windshield weather seal, moonroof weather seal, driver & passenger doors weather strips, rear quarter panel weather seals/strips, genuine BMW moldings kit, and rear bumper diffuser.

Brakes: no modification.

Exhaust: no modification

Wheels/Tires: Originally came with 17” OEM contour wheels. Shortly after ownership, replaced with 18” x 8.5” BBS RC ET 38 fresh powder coat painted in 2015, front tires 235/18 and rear 255/18. Tires are now old, will recommend to replace it with new set of tires.
Note:
1. One of the wheel had a hairline crack (hardly visible) caused it to lose lots of air weekly. This turns out a common issue with old BBS cast wheels. Had the wheel repaired (welded) at the wheel shop and powder coated. No issue ever since.
2. One wheel has a small curb rash

Always received compliments everywhere its driven.
Current location: Houston, TX
Racing stripes that appear when you select Sport Mode. Pretty cool idea…not sure it alone will save their sales problems, but I’ll bet they will soak their customers at $9 grand for the option.
