Hi all,

I just got a 228i xdrive (122k miles) for my son; and car was very clean when I inspected it, no oil leaks, engine sounding pretty smooth. I did see the coolant bottle a bit dirty, but that is usual for 10 y.o. cars which have not seen many coolant changes.

I dropped the coolant to change it, and to my surprise, there was a film of oil on it . The oil made the bottle dirty...

Oil is clean in the engine, no foam. Actually came out very clean, honey like.

My first thought was the oil cooler next to oil filter, so I opened that up and to my surprise it had a new gasket (new style gasket). It is possible that someone replaced it not long ago due to the oil/coolant mixing there.

Is there a possibility for the gearbox (auto transmission) oil to mix with coolant? Tee gearbox oil coolant is just a block of metal next to radiator, no seals in that one... can't see how that can get bad.

I might just bite the bullet and do a transmission oil change and see if it's clean. Car shifts well , no issues.

Any feedback welcome.
Thank you

Started to hear a little rattle after 5 days- took to 2 BMW mechanics one said I needed a new timing chain -valves- oil leak, etc. quoted me $6400
second Bmw specialist said everything is fine-The chain was OK- no oil leaks -didn’t recommend anything; I went to the Kia dealer asked for them to pay for repairs )just in case those were actually)
needed. I didn’t get 3rd opinion yet) they offered me $2000 cash- or to have the Kia mechanics work on it.
What say you?

Uncovered the convertible after a long Northern Ohio winter, started it and seemed to be idling rough. No codes, drove terrible around the block. Then an error on the central display saying "drivetrain error". I have a DTC reader, plugged it in and now noticed the check engine light is flashing. The reader mentions P1400,(combustion misfire multiple cylinders),P1403( combustion misfire cylinder 3),P1204 (fuel system failure caused cylinder 4 misfire)
Am I correct in assuming its probably the number 3 cyl coil pack? Car only has 32k miles on it. And should I replace all 4, or just the failed one?

I started noticing this after installing a aluminium intake and chargepipe.

Could it be vibrations from the engine bay triggering the knock sensor? Ghost knock? Chatgpt suggests so.

And might this be the reason why the DME isn't targeting more than 350nm? As soon it reaches more than 350nm, it targets less nm. It happens in every log like this.

Its the 6 speed manual transmission, TCU torque limiter is off.
