Too all car mag reviewers this is NOT an M car. It is an M performance model. I know the new BMW designations are quite confusing but stop comparing the M235i as if it's an M2. It's not supposed to be as stiff as an M car because guess what? It's not.

AMG = M
AMG > M performance models and IS models.

Now that things are in clear perspective. The M235i does really well against a full bred AMG car.

The lack of traction is ridiculous...it looks likes he was on a wet track. I highly doubt his car had the Michelin PSS...

What bothers me is the fact that the amg45 was in control and the m235i was sliding all over the place at the end but still have a better time?? Comon we're not stupid

They probably did a timed lap in the proper, grip racing fashion and then the drift stuff was for show. So BMW's non M 2 series is as fast as the A/CLA45 AMG. What is an M2 gonna do?

I know right. The M2 in my opinion is going to be a game changer. But let's see what the competition is going to release when the M2 comes out.

That gearbox on M235 sounds like a muted rifle bolt. However, it doesn't make this sound in mine and it sometimes feels sloppy in hot weather. Do they have better gearboxes in Euro-spec car or thicker gearbox-oil ? From watching and listening to those videos I always get an impression we get shortchanged in North America.

Mine sounds like a muted rifle bolt. Maybe yours needs adjustment?

I've been listening carefully to the video, and I'm positive the clinking you hear is NOT the gearbox, but the guys hammering the pedals on and off, specially the gas pedal.
I really can't hear a single noise I can atribute to the gearbox, just the pedals and other things he has hanging around!

i owned both an A45 Ed1 and m235 (auto).

maybe it is just my poor driving skill, but no way i can drive the 235 faster than the A45, let alone a manual one. in my experience the a45 has both a more powerful engine and better handling (much stiffer suspension), but it is not faster than the 235 by much.

the 235 offers more comfort in the suspension department which i prefer for a daily drive.

Why not paste up your lap times of both cars?

A45 understeers more and has all-season tires (at least based on M135i vs A45 video). AMG loses some of its power advantage to 4WD. Also, its engine is quite laggy. Having said that I am still surprised M235i won.

Dude can drive but Steve Sutcliffe has a hard on for MB so I find his review typical.

That hatch wing mutant thing needs to be shot and killed. It really is offensively ugly and overdone. I don't care if it was faster round the track by a 5 seconds and gave blowjobs, no thanks.

The Merc looks like a smaller R-Class in the front and a Ford Focus in the back.

To be fair the Merc lost because of the missed 3rd gear corner most likely. That would have easily got 2 tenth of a second. And we didn't see the timed lap for the BMW so I'm like... meh.
Nevertheless great time for the "M performance" beemer vs the AMG model. The M2 might just be my next car.
