I have to laugh at this bit, though:

"With just 3525 pounds to punt around..."

"Just" 3,525 pounds?

I think that they've been driving too many AWD luxury sedans and SUVs lately. As much as I like the M235i, it is a bit of a porker for its size.

My E93 M3 weighed 4,200 pounds (albeit it was a hardtop convertible)

So I wasn't crazy arguing with some guy on here that my M235i is faster than my E93 M3 was.

I have both the m235i and the e93 M3. The m235i is noticeably faster.

VERY Nice! I did not realize the M235i was that good a performer, relative to the M3.

Makes me even more excited to take delivery of my car, which should be on Wednesday!

Wow that was a great review for the M235i.
I'm surprised by some of their comments. Like 100% of the e92 M3's performance for 2/3 the cost. I agree with the cost but would not go that far as to say 100% as I think that's ludicrous.

But this just gives credence to what I've been saying all along. The M2 will be just as fast if not faster than the E92 M3 on the track when it comes out.

Most owners, including M3 owners will never put their car on a track. So for argument's sake, the numbers they provided are all most people will identify with... in that case, it is M3 performance numbers. The e92 m3 feels more engaging, but the numbers don't lie.

Point taken if looked at it this way.

The most relevant performance number for me was the fact that the car was tested on 91 octane at California proving grounds. It is already faster than my departed E39 M5 and likely a 110+ mph trap car with some decent 93 octane in it!

Agree 100%. M2 will be absolutely amazing. Let's just hope they don't limit the production like the 1M.

Car and drivers times are always much lower than almost all other reviewers. They use a 3 foot rollout on all their 0-60, 1/4 mile so they aren't really that real-world accurate. Only to compare to other C&D times...

That said they are definitely my favorite magazine reviewer.

Let us pray....

The potential of the M2 has me completely off the M4 bandwagon. I even changed my avatar.

Some very good performance numbers! How does that stack up against the 1M?

Summary: "you’re getting 100 percent of the outgoing M3’s performance for two-thirds the price".

Nice review. Don't agree with the the "summary" but I'll take it. Love this car.

Funny, Motorweek just had the M235i at 5.2 0-60 and a 14 flat 1/4 on their Velocity show.
