Spied: BMW 2 Series Coupe (F22) Even More Up Close and Personal

Here is the 2 Series Coupe (F22) prototype and the closest look yet at BMW's upcoming compact sports coupe. This may be the 228i model, which joins the 235i and M235i as prototypes we've now spied. See the full 2 Series spy photo archive.

The closeups here give the best look yet at the 2 Series headlights, which are indeed much smaller and sleeker than the headlights of the F20/F21 1 Series hatchback (with which the 2 Series lineup shares a platform). While the inside corners of the headlights are still camouflaged, expect the headlights to connect to the kidney grilles as it does on the F30 and upcoming models such as the X5 (F15).

Although the overall styling and shape of the front and rear bumpers are still obscured by heavy camouflage, the closeup gives us a peek at the kidney grilles, which feature 8 slats each (although the quantity may vary on the different model 'lines'). Overall, the kidney grille design is sportier (wider and not as upright) than those on the F20 1 Series.

The first photo shows the sculpted lines on each side of the 2 Series hood and parts of the lower front fascia styling. We don't have a look at the 2 Series dash, but we do see that red seats will likely be an option.

The 2 Series will be built on the same RWD platform as the current 1 Series hatchbacks (F20/F21), with which it will also share powerplants.

POTENTIAL 2 SERIES LINEUP

The following is a potential / expected 2 Series lineup:

• 2 Series Coupe (F22)
• 2 Series Convertible (F23) (spy pics)
• 2 Series Gran Coupe (four door coupe) - still speculative [more info].
• 2 Series Gran Sports Tourer (Hyundai Veloster type vehicle) - still highly speculative [more info].
• M235i M Performance Automobile - as now spotted and confirmed [spy pics].
• M2 Coupe - successor to current 1M coupe, recently rumored to be 4 Cylinder [more info] (though we have our doubts as the M235i is likely to share the M135i's six cylinder inline engine and our photographer confirms clearly hearing a 6 cylinder in the M235i prototype).
• M2 Gran Coupe - M version of 2 Series Gran Coupe to compete with Mercedes Benz CLA45 AMG and Audi S3 Sedan; still speculative [more info].

It appears that the trunk is higher than bottom of the windows like the E90 and F30 instead of like the E82 and E92. Maybe it's to give a more aggressive stance and appearance while its stationary because it is a small car.

Edit: The height difference seems to be very small, smaller than the E90 and F30 for sure.

Now we have 1 ser, 2 ser, 3 ser (sport, modern, luxury, "M-Sport"), I hope BMW is expanding their car lines smartly and not stretching out thin. Now I feel any car category get the M sign slapped on it and get called an M without actually being one.

ya i saw that this does not have that ugly like across the nose of the car for the hood line...i hope this holds true! I have my eye on the new 4 coupe but the M2...could be awesome!

Sorry to disappoint, but the hoodline is just covered on the coupe prototypes.
