How many they process there a day, I have no idea.. Your dealer can call or email their contact there to find out... or just get more info. Here's an old writeup from someone that toured one of BMW's VDC. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...on-center.html

Called BMW Genius. It's at VPC now, scheduled completion by Friday 4/14. Scheduled pickup 4/16 ETA at dealer 4/17.
Pickup Tuesday 4/18? That's the timeline for now.

Didn't make sense to me either. She might have said pickup 4/15. Either way delivery date ETA was 4/17. We shall see.....

I've harassed BMW genius over the past few days, but still no update. They insist I should be leaving tomorrow for dealer ETA Monday but I doubt it considering they told me as of now I'm still in VPC. They said check back in Monday morning.
I'm getting so impatient especially because this weekend is beautiful!

Well it looks like the worst has happened after all.
My dealer told me no, BMW Genius told me no, BMW NA told me no, but it only makes sense that my car is being held up in delivery due to the convertible part. I got to VPC 4/12, scheduled completion 4/13, depart 4/16 and at dealer 4/17. Nothing updated in numerous calls today until they last one. Now all of a sudden they have a "hold" and won't tell me what or any ETA's... I emailed the sales manager to get an update from VPC. But I'm probably up shits creek now too. I'm getting discouraged. May look into additional sports car convertibles on the pre owned market now. The lack of communication is irritating. |

This is really bad news for all of us.. Pretty soon, it's not even going to be worth taking delivery because the '18s will start being built.
Mine has an estimated build completion date of 4/19 and they haven't even started the build yet.. I'm guessing it's because of that convertible boot. I'm really surprised that BMW hadn't sourced the part from another supplier. I doubt Recticel is the only suppler that can make this part with some special coating. There's got to be a comparable coating from some other supplier. I remember Peugeot announcing they were looking for a new supplier almost immediately. I wonder why BMW don't do such. Here's a video of the fire... Like it's going to help us...

Still waiting for mine!
230i xDrive. Ordered Jan 19. Arrived VPC March 6. Been awaiting convertible boot cover since.
Last week the rep called to tell me it was scheduled to arrive at dealer (in PA) on April 17. And he emailed me screen shot of the Vehicle Inquiry Status which shows Ship date from VPC of April 16 (odd indeed, since it was Sunday) and Dealer delivery April 17. It didn't arrive at the dealer, nor is there confirmation that it has been actually shipped to the dealer. I called BMW Genius earlier today, and just got a call back from BMW Customer relations that they don't think the required part is even available at the VPC yet! Could be sometime in May or June when the parts are available for retrofit! Doesn't make any sense to me - I am going to speak to the dealer again to see what is really going on...

Latest update from BMW Genius
So I just spoke to someone at BMW Genius who said the system has been now been updated and shows an "estimated" delivery date of May 8, and he reminded me that dates are always subject to change.
My dealer rep is off on Tuesdays, so I will speak to him tomorrow to see if he sees the same information at his end. Will provide more info as I get it...

I just got off the phone with BMW because my dealer's VIR was showing my order in Status 150 with an estimated completion date of 4/19. The info I got was that it's in Assembly now and the rep stated she had no addition info as to when it went into body or paint. She said it didn't even have a time stamp as to when it went into Assembly. I asked her about the boot and she had no idea there was even an issue with a supplier fire and referred me to my dealer.
I'm nearing the finish line, but with the missing boot issue still in the air, who knows when it'll actually get delivered... I'm just glad I'm not the guy who ordered in September and still hasn't taken delivery.. That to me is just nuts! BBQJoe.. I got my fingers crossed for you to get it before May... Last I heard was that the boot was being produced in March, but at a limited rate. I'd think by April, they would have been back to full production or BMW would have sourced the part from someone else.. Especially since BMW stated it was only affecting around a 1000 cars.

Well I received the bad news as well. My CA finally gave me an update from VPC and turns out I didn't avoid anything at all even though everyone told me from my dealer and BMW that my car was unaffected. Now they said LATE MAY. Needless to say I am infuriated with the whole situation and additionally the lack of communication. With no fault to the dealer really, and no hard feelings, I will be pulling my order and getting my deposit refunded.
This was a 3rd car for summer for me anyway, and now it seems all the more appealing as I've zoned in on other noteworthy options for considerably less payments that get the job done for a summer sports convertible. I wish everyone else the best in their orders. |

Update on 230ix vert delivery
CA and BMW Genius now show May 8 delivery date, due to the missing boot cover, but date is "subject to change." I've seen others are being told June, so I don't trust their estimated dates.
My CA has located 2 available vehicles he can get me. One 230i same color, etc. as mine on order, but missing one option I wanted, and has a couple I didn't want. Sticker is about $1k higher, but he is willing to do the deal essentially at same lease terms as the one I have on order. Also heard back from BMW Customer Service today (since I have been complaining) and they are offering to pick up 2 months of my lease payments due to the delays (anyone else in same boat should ask for similar compensation for being patient.) He also located a M240i xdrive vert that I am now seriously considering. Higher sticker, of course, but not by much, may do it to get that sweet 6-cylinder. Estoril Blue instead of Deep Sea Blue, but I think I am ok with that. We are negotiating...Stay tuned...

BBQJoe,
Winter.zed, up in Canada said his build was pushed back to April so it would be built with the cover because Canadian ports don't have a setup where they can install things at Port. Quote:

So is anyone aware of a held convertible being released? It would be good to know if the process has even started. My car has only been sitting a few weeks but if this is going to drag on as the Summer starts I'm not sure what to do.

Winter.Zed stated that verts built in April have the boot, so should not be held at VDC... I'll know soon since mine was just built and should be in the states within a few weeks.

I talked to the sales manager at my dealership this weekend, because having a car in "completed" state for over 2 weeks but not shipped yet is NOT normal for Canadian orders. Since he did not know what the status was, and because of the weekend - I waited until today for an answer from him. Remember - we don't have a "VDC" in Canada. Apparently my car was manufactured (probably without the cover) and now it's sitting in a holding lot in Germany somewhere. My car's completion date was April 6. (same as my birthday, actually - which double-sucks ) Here's the problem - they (dealer and BMW Canada) could not provide ANY estimate when would I have my car ready for shipping. I really was looking forward to my first convertible (and a BMW convertible at that) but I did cancel my order today. Will look to get something else. May have to wait again, but that is not even the issue here. We are still getting my wife's 330e delivered in a week or two. At least that one got off the boat this past Friday. I really enjoyed my time on this board, and will be around still because of the 330, but no 240 for me
