Interior Brushed Aluminum + Estoril Blue Trim
So when I ordered my car I really wanted the matching Estoril Blue interior trim but I wasn't a big fan of the Aluminum Hexagon so I ordered the Brushed Aluminum and just figured I'd do something about it when the car arrived.
So.. once my car was here I purchased another vent and glove box piece from a forum member and went about tearing them apart. (My apologies for the crappy photos, I couldn't find my camera and my old iphone has the photo taking potential of a can of creamed corn) Stock pieces The back of the left vent. The black trim is just help on via some small tabs, just get in there with a small screwdriver or a plastic pry tool. The back of the larger dash piece is a bit more difficult, the outer edge is just more clips but the inner edge towards the steering wheel is part of a larger piece that is plastic welded together. I used a dremel here to remove the plastic 'welds' and the whole thing came apart pretty easy, you can see I've ground off about half of them here. Here's what they look like when you get them separated Then it was on to paint! (a side-note here, it would have been easier to buy a hexagon donor set and not have to paint but I wasn't sure how any of this stuff was constructed and I was worried I may have to paint them in one big piece so I went this way) Primer Blue basecoat Apparently I didn't take a picture of the clear but all told I did 2 coats of primer, sanded to 1000, then 2 coats of blue, sanded, 2 more coats of blue, them 4-5 coats of clear, then buffed out with some polish I had laying around. I then reattached the aluminum to the newly blue parts with some rubberized CA (its actually used for RC car tires but works great for most plastics and isn't brittle like most CA's) All done! And some blurry pics of the parts on the car. |

Good job!! I personally didn't like the hexagon trim either, for some reason it feels like a honey comb in there.
The results look stunning! Great write up!! Hopefully it will encourage people to do something similar to their interior now!
