Updated September 1, 2015 with closeup photos.

An updated M235i Racing has been seen on the Nurburgring testing some updates made in response to customer feedback. It now sports a rear wing and should have some other changes as well.

The M235i Racing is used in the BMW M235i Racing Cup, a one-make cup within the VLN (Nurburgring Endurance Championship), and is sold to customer teams in other championships.

The current M235i Racing is powered by a 333hp / 332 lb-ft N55 motor, reprogrammed ZF 8 speed auto, mechanical LSD, race-tuned steering, traction control, and ABS. It's also fitted with a roll cage and slicks.

I was thinking the same. Or an M2 GTS.

Since the M2 hasn't finished it's own build yet, I wouldn't be surprised if they were using an M235i shell w/ M2 bits finished even further with CSL/GTS items.

I don't see any reason why BMW would need/want to finish the M235i even further, nonetheless adding a wing. I think they're trying to hide something in plain sight

It does seem a little odd that they are going to throw a wing on it all of a sudden.

I think people are reading too far into this.
This is the M235i racing edition, which was built specifically for racing and isn't road legal.
OP said its raced in a Cup specifically for M235i Racing editions. I'm not too familiar with racing and each Cups rules but from what I've seen, in most Cups where only one type of car is being driven, teams aren't allowed to modify the car too drastically. So it would make sense if BMW themselves were modifying the car with a wing and other bits of most of the teams were requesting it.

It also wouldn't make too much sense to me to test aerodynamic parts on a mule that will most likely be totally different than the end product, which some of you believe to be the M2 CSL.

Considering 235i racing only has 333hp has me confused as to why M2 is speculated to get 360+

Maybe they're speculating it too high?

Just because it says what it does in the OP doesn't mean it's 100% true. Without speculation, this forum would be pretty boring. Almost every other post here is speculation anyways, so I'm not sure why your jimmies are rustled over this particular idea anyways..

I wasn't really reading into it. I was merely speculating. The 1M started off of what? A 135i. The M2 started off of what? An M235i. BMW has done it before and can certainly do it again. With the BMW Racing widebody kit, they can absolutely mimic the new (not done) M2's dimensions without pulling out an actual test-mule M2 and potentially ruining that. I could be wrong but taking everything at face-value isn't always that fun

The M235i Racing is a lightweight version of the road legal Coupe. I would say that its hp rating would be commensurate to its power-to-weight ratio. Which would make this race-only versions quite formidable.

The F87 M2 has completed its "build" and is also past its FEV (Final Evaluation Phase) a while ago.

This may very well be the M2 GTS hiding in plain sight.
