Europe is getting the 228i

I just saw on our national BMW website the configurator for the 228i coupe for Europe. I thought Europe was getting the 225i, because the 1 series hatch and the Active Tourer have that engine and the engines for the previous generation 1 series coupe were different as well for Europe and US (125i, 128i). A pleasent surprise for us in Europe.

That's weird. I'm curious why didn't BMW offer the 228i from the start in all countries in Europe. Even my dealer said that Europe will be getting the 225i a few months ago.

Maybe the dealer has no idea? lol
Edit to say I don't think they even make a 225i other than the active tourer

Well of course there will be no 225i coupe, now that we know about the 228i. I thought the 228i is currently only available in the US. Even on the german BMW website was no information whether there will be a 225i or a 228i till recently. there were the 220i and M235i and nothing between. But as we know from the previous generation there were different engines for the US (128i) and Europe (125i), so why couldn't it happen again?
(It's a good thing it didn't )

No idea how they number the US engines, for some reason the 320d is listed in the US as a 328d

It's not about the numbering of the models. The 25i and 28i have different power outputs.
