Which option has the LEAST and MOST value for the money?

In your opinion, which option has the MOST and LEAST value for the money?
Just out of curiosity of what others think about these options.
Pick only one LEAST and one MOST favorite please.
  • Metallic color ($700)
  • Cold weather package ($700)
  • Driver assistance package ($950)
  • Driver assistance package w/ assistant plus ($950+$700)
  • Navigation system ($2,000)
  • HK audio system ($875)
  • Leather seats ($1,450)
  • Limited Slip Differential ($2,500-$3,200 depending on region and where it is installed)

There are more options, but I'm particularly interested to know your opinion about these options. Some people just check all the boxes because they can, but I'm looking to get inputs for the budget conscious buyers

Although I'm tempted to add lighting to your list...I'd say my most valuable for the money is cold weather as I use the heated seats every day (and steering wheel every morning in winter). Least would probably be HK audio.

I ticked all of the above and use them all. If I was getting white I wouldn't get the metallic paint. Also, Apple CarPlay is not worth it yet, maybe it will be in the future but iDrive is better right now.

Thanks guys, this is helpful. I'm trying to figure out what others value... I am mainly concerned about resale value/timing

If you're trying to find out what the general public values in resale...this is probably the wrong place. They are going to want what most enthusiasts would call the stupid stuff...driver assistance stuff, leathers, audio packs and gps...If you're ordering...just order what YOU want.

Disagree about the HK. If you use the radio a lot it's definitely a good deal, $875 for a decent stereo is not a lot in the car world. Mine's on 100% of the time and I'd be cringing with the base stereo.

I doubt a paint color would add any real money to the resale value, so I'd put that at worst value. White cars are not difficult to sell, so AW is a good deal because it's free. Isn't it so kind of BMW to offer us paint for free?

Best value for money options are probably the free ones, get summer tires / staggered wheels

I have the radio on all the time. I know HK definitely sounds better, but just can't spend money on it. If the car I'm getting a decent deal on has it, all the better. I won't buy one without the sport bits, lights or heated stuff is what I was getting at. To be honest though, that list OP has is full of a bunch of stuff I wouldn't buy. FWIW, I will say the HK or Logic7 or whatever it was that was in my 2009 e92 335i was definitely better than the Bose in my 2009 Cayman.

Least value - Nav. For 2k you can buy a phone mount for less than $20 to use for nav and spend the remaining $ on mods.

Heated seats best value for me. Can put a price on toasty buns during the New England winter. I would say Cold Weather Pkg. but I hate useless headlight washers.

A dealer would disagree with you, NAV actually does matter for resale. As does leather. HK for instance very little impact.

Had OP asked his question focused on resale to begin with answers would be very different.

Second that. Nav is big deal. But if we're talking options that matter for resale...OP left the biggest one off. The automatic. Sure, it doesn't cost anything anymore, but it is by far the biggest resale boost. It's a shame but the manual option reduces the value of a used car by over $1000, sometimes $2000.

Thanks guys.
I wonder why the heck BMW charges so much for a screen that is 2 inches bigger (maybe less?) in the same frame

and that is an ADDITIONAL cost. It's not the cost for the unit itself. Meaning, let's assume the regular kit costs $500. So if you forego the regular kit for $500 and pay 2,000 extra, you're really paying $2,500 for the thing.
2,500!!!!!!!!!!!!

sigh
hahaha sorry. I'm an economist and engineer.

If choosing things purely based on resale no charge color, auto, nav, leather, heated seats (don't need cold weather) and a backup camera. Anything either M performance or aftermarket just consider that money completely gone.

According to Edmunds the options that return more than 50% of the cost are Navigation and Leather.

That depends on region and whether its a private sale or trade in with dealer

It also depends on the model of the car

A MT on a Toyota Corrolla will be more of a hit than a MT on an M2 for obvious reasons.....application/target audience

I wonder if not having a fancier screen would make the car lose more than 2k in resale value than otherwise. Looks like it won't from what I am seeing.

Funny how we can have exactly opposite opinions on the options, when we both agree on the car itself.

Heated seats are useless for me - I covered mine for the winter yesterday.

And the Technology Package is the one option I could not live without. I don't want to be looking down at my phone while driving. The integrated Navigation has info in the gauge cluster as well as the iDrive screen. But the package offers much more than Navigation. You get a bigger screen, BMW Online, extended instrument cluster, BMW Apps including the M Laptimer app (fantastic if you go to the track), and more. Plus, as others have said, the Tech Package is one of the most desirable options when it comes to resale.

I'm the total opposite

LSD and heated seats are the only options I care about aside from MT

If I need Nav I'll use my phone

Now.....if BMW would just pull their heads out of their arses and give us a temp guage and oil pressure guage.......

Driver asst package and LSD are my most important options.

The least would have to be leather seats.

You would recoup slightly less than 50% of value on Nav. All things equal using a 15 M235 i for example the difference in value is $925. The OP's question was asking for opinion not resale.
