Such a shame that BMW doesn't bring the same lineup to the US as what the rest of the world has.

Assuming there's still a M235i or M240i whatever it's called. If they just got to a 240i, then there's a chance the M2 will start lower than that difference.

As long as it starts under 55k I will be happy. But much happier if it is 52K. Cause if LED headlights are an option, that box is getting checked!!

I am hoping so, but we will see. It will be interesting to watch as BMW lays out the strategy.

The gap currently between the 228i and M235i stands at a whopping $11k. Yea I know you get things included in the M235i as standard that is optional on the 228i, but that is still a huge gap (that M badge is $$$). Now if you look at let's say a 328i vs a 335i, the gap is only $6k. So let's say the gap between the 230i and 240i is 6-8k, it definitely leaves enough room for the M2 to start right at 50k IMHO. This is of course all assumptions and what not, but personally, I've got my eyes squarely on this M2. Even if it starts at $54k. I look forward as more info and spy pics are released, we needed it in this subforum

I thought the same - the M235i would be continued. It makes sense to ditch it though, if for no other reason than to avoid confusion. "The M235i is better! It's 35i more than the M2!" and other such nonsense.

M235i becomes M240i. Don't worry there is still plenty to distinguish from the M2 just as a 335i or 435i is not an M3 or M4.

And it's going to have an old dumpy N55 when the M240 gets the new engine? That can't be the plan. If it is, that's not gonna work very well.

Additionally, won't this will be the first "new" M performance car to be sold alongside a true M car? They might have done it in the X lines - but you don't see an M335 and M3, an M435 and M4, etc... Perhaps this will be the test case.

No. The M550d has co-existed with the M5. Also, the M135i next to the 1 Series M coupé.

And I might be wrong, but the M135 was F20 and the 1M was an E82, yes? I am not sure that really counts, as the 1M would have stopped production prior to. Just sayin - not the same thing.
