Try OBDFusion. It's a great app. It's available in the iTunes store for $10. It connects via a wifi adapter that plugs into the obd2 port. Buy the wifi adapter made by VeePeek from Amazon.

That's why I liked the setup in my E46 M3 it had a light system that circled the tach. It start off red and would end at the highest RPM you should go. As the car warmed up it moved up the scale and eventually went away. At least that's how I remember it working, it's been a while since I had it.

That's the one to get super easy - other adapters have trouble pairing.
