Is unplugging the exhaust valve actuator a good idea?

Hello everyone,

For a while, I have been thinking about whether or not I should unplug the exhaust valve actuator in order to keep the valve permanently open. After hearing the difference today, I am probably going to unplug it, but I have a concern that has been keeping me from unplugging the valve.

For those who have unplugged the valve, has it triggered any check engine lights? In a previous BMW, the check engine light was triggered due to the failure of a sensor. Would unplugging the valve result in the same issue? For example, when the car's computer wants to tell the valve to close, but it doesn't because I have unplugged it, will the computer deem the valve as unresponsive and therefore trigger the check engine light?

Sorry for the sort of long post, I just want to make sure that I don't run into any problems down the road.

Thanks

No light/issues when unplugging. Mine's been undone for thousands of miles.

I just removed the spring that operates the valve, not the electrical connector. You probably dont want water to get on the connector when its unplugged

On top of it, I think its not the actual opening and closing that always rattles, its that spring, so removing it and tightening valve stopped my annoying rattling. Takes 5 minutes since its super easy to access under the car (no lift needed)

How did you leave the unplugged connector? I'm thinking about taping the ends up, but then one end will still be hanging unplugged.

You can unplug it but I promise you there won't be a change in sound once the motor is warmed. The valve has little effect on noise, burbles, etc. once the motor is warm plus in most modes, it's open after about 2 minutes of driving/starting.

Yeah I didn't notice any sound differences, I disconnected because it was rattling, it's easier then going to dealer.

Mine has been unplugged for 60K miles or so. I taped up the connectors. It's not a sensor, it's the connection for the flap motor. I had my resonator deleted a few months ago and this was the result. This is not a cold start. Cold start is significantly louder than that. Pay no attention to how dirty my car is at the time.

Covered both ends with electrical tape and just taped it onto a not hot part to tuck it out of the way.

This is assuming that dealers service depts actually pay attention. My experience is that they try to do the MINIMUM to finish the mandatory service as quickly as possible.

Yeah they don't spend a whole ton of time inspecting for unplugged and taped connectors.

I didn't think they would. I was asking in general if anyone had the dealer say something. Sometimes you take your car in for a rattle or somthing like that, and they are normaly quick to blame an unplugged connector that has nothing to do with it.
