What's this noise ?
Hello,
I'm Cedric from Belgium. I purchased a bmw 220I f22 some months ago. Pretty nice car but now the sun is coming and I decided to open the window and I could hear like a turbo under load noise when I'm only hitting the accelerator on low rpm. There is a video https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ENcOSmkWJ5M I'm not an expert so can't really say what it is but if I go faster the sound disseapear it happens only on low rpm on when accelerating back. Does only on Drive not when parking/idling. Sorry for my English it ain't the best Cheers |

I mean yes it has a turbo like in every F22 ? I mean in Europe at least it's the case but was just wondering if the sound was normal or not.
By the way, I just watched on USA BMW on the G42 it starts at 230I minimum lol pretty insane. we start at 218 over here haha |

Hey, at least you guys get the beautiful cloth interiors.
Just wanted to add it does sound turbo related to me too. Could it be an air leak? I would get it look at professionally if possible, or trace the air hoses in search of a leak. |

Yes and some people told me it was kinda normal that every turbo isn't the same but i'm not really sure and I don't loose any power at all. I'll bring the car at the end of the month to a bmw garage to be sure but it isn't thant loud. It's mostly because windows are open and no sound around

My car sounds similar but at higher RPMs and usually drowned out by wind noise at that point.
If the car drives fine but you always are wondering if something is wrong, it may be best to have a look at it. It could very well be 100% normal, I'm just a novice youtube mechanic though. |

Yes. But the old owner could have modified something aswell to get that sound. Since he already changed the diffusor of the car wouldn't even be surprised. People getting bmw usually like to thune them.
I'll bring it to someone but first need to do some esthetics modifications on it ==> adding 220I black insign behind ( 220I is european version B48 184HP basically same motor than our 230I but brided and brided why ? Because in Belgium for example for a 184HP you need to give 2000E to the state to be able to drive it on road and 230I is 5000E) ; adding black M on the wings, adding some front blade, eyebrow gloss black... + soon a retrofit on the wing mirror electric because yes I don't know if it happens in NA but you can get a pack M car without getting that options around 1000E to code it and mount them second hand I'll keep you in touch NA friends https://www.noelshack.com/2024-10-5-1709918974-bm34.jpg Picture of the car when I bought it Last edited by slaviA; 03-08-2024 at 11:32 AM.. |
