Suicidal bugs and a white.

So i picked MWM for my paint and now starting to regret it. I dint know what it is about these bugs, but whenever I drive at night, the next morning, the front of my car is speckled with bugs.

Anyone know what I should try to clean them off with? Is there any product, as in wax/sealant, that might be super slick, so the bugs just slide off?

I have AW, not MWM, but I understand your complaint. Though I do like my 240 in white, bugs can be an issue. There is nothing out there than can just make a killed bug slide off your paint. The best you can do it to make sure that you keep a couple of coats of whatever you use as a sealant or a wax, on the bug-prone areas. After the bug attack, you can spray most any "quick detailer" on those areas, and let it soak in for a couple of minutes. Then, a careful wipe with a decent microfiber towel should take care of 90 percent of the problem.

When you wash the car, get those areas good and soapy wet, even before starting to wash the car. By the time you get to those spots, they should wash easily.

A caution, though. If you're going to drive a white car around during the summer, you will have a nasty-looking car, unless you make a commitment to taking care of the bug issue. If you do, you will be much happier.

This is my first white car in 21 years, and I now realize my memory must be f'd, because white cars are not as easy to keep clean as I remember. I owned black vehicles for 19.5 out of the last 21 years and although they show swirls/light scratches more than white, bugs and other foreign matter are more pronounced on white cars. For example, I stopped and cleaned my windshield tonight at the gas station, and they had what appeared to be full concentration washer fluid in the cleaning reservoir. Well after cleaning with the squeegee thing, there were bright blue spots on my front fenders from the run off. This would not have been noticeable on a black car. Oh well.

Griots makes something to coat the paint beforehand so they wash off faster. Only used it once, but it worked well.

Why not get paint protection film, i.e. a clear bra?

You still have to clean the bugs off the film! In my experience, they stick about as well to the film as the paint.

Car manufacturers just need to bring out new colour called "bug guts" and then they won't be noticeable between washes.

I know what you mean, I have AW. I love the white though...

I think mineral gray would be a good choice

I know the feeling.. I've been getting black or similar dark colored cars because I hate washing and bug guts were rarely seen ... unless you were looking. Like you, I hadn't had a white care for decades and now I know why.

I think this will be my last white car... I'm tired of washing this thing two or more times a week... I've gotta figure something out because the power washer doesn't seem to be cutting it.

double or triple wax the front end of the car. I use regular 409 household cleaner to remove bugs. Stuff is amazing, spray on, let it sit for 30 seconds and all the bug guts wipe off w/o any rubbing. I find it to work better than any of the dedicated bug and tar removers sold.

Finish w/ a little soapy water to remove any residue and your done.

We have "Love-bugs" in Florida and if left on the car for a extended period, their "juice" eats the paint. They can get so thick, it's like driving through a black snow flurry. 409 is my friend.

yea i have mineral white and will never get this color again.

It looks great, but impossible to paint match. Id recommend a spray wax and a clean microfiber towel in the trunk.

The plus side though is you don't have to worry as much about inducing swirls in lighter paint. They're still there; just not as easy to see.

Oldie but goodie...

What's the last thing that goes through a bug's mind when he hits your car?

His butt.

This. I keep some detailer spray / microfiber towels in the trunk. I'll wipe bugs off pretty much whenever I get in/out of the car..

I have MW and clear bra and bugs come off quite easily once I get them wet and let them soak a bit. It's worth the hassle because the color is absolutely stunning.

I have always had luck with a quick Griot's clay bar treatment on the front end then finished with a couple coats of a quality carnauba wax.. Takes about an hour.

My last two vehicles were metallic black and I struggled to learn how to properly maintain the clear coat. It took a lot longer than it should of.. Drugs were more than likely involved..

Current vehicle is Mineral Grey as I finally learned my lesson as maintenance on white or black is a full time job... With a polished surface, I find that nothing but the larger roadkill and slow kids stick to the front end.

Your results may vary...

MW is a beautiful color and absolutely stunning when freshly washed. Dust and dirt doesn't show much from a distance but bugs are really obvious on that color. Where I live there aren't many bugs. I went on a road trip and found that my car was a bug magnet. Fortunately with the clear bra they just wash off...but no, they won't just fall off :-) I think pewter (between silver and dark gray) would be a great all around color to show the lines of the car and to not show bugs. My car also shows bird splats but I'm glad about that because bird splats will eat through your paint in short order.

I use Poorboys Bug Squash in my detailing business. Spray on, wait 5 minutes and most bugs come off with the jet spray from the hose. For stubborn bug guts I use a bug removal pad with handle on it. You can dilute the product 3:1. I get mine from www.detailedimage.com.

I don't know what's in this stuff, because it doesn't burn my skin or anything, but it's Amazing at removing bugs!

Thanks for the tip!

You guys would get the same effect with hot water or a standard detail spray. Just like baked on food on a dish, it's all about letting the material soak a bit. That's all.
