Question on trunk locking

Here's a question to the group. Since I live in a city where car break-ins happen round the clock, would the perp be able to open the trunk by pressing the trunk release button on the driver's side if I locked the car when I parked it? I know there's the whole valet lock system, but it's not always convenient as I'd have to unlock it from the inside every time I need to open the trunk. My old 330ci had an actual locking trunk that could only be opened by pressing the button on the key (release button was disabled), but no such feature on the 228i.
