M235i 8AT - return to automatic mode?

2 series owner's manual says:

"In the manual mode, after conservative driving for a certain amount of time or if there has been no acceleration or shifting of the shift paddles within a certain amount of time, the transmission switches back to automatic mode."

Does that mean that I can be in Sport driving mode, with the gear selector in manual mode, and if I don't touch the paddles for a certain amount of time the selector will go back to automatic mode?

Or does that happen only in Comfort driving mode, with gear selector in manual mode?

As far as I know this only happens if you have the transmission in auto mode and shift with the paddles. Moving it to S mode and then shifting with the paddles with make it stay in M mode.

Yes, you are correct jcl89. Even if you are in "Sport" mode and have used the paddles, after a certain amount of time, it will switch back to automatic shifting. The manual describes it best, "after conservative driving for a certain amount of time or if there has been no acceleration or shifting of the shift paddles within a certain amount of time, the transmission switches back to automatic mode."
However, I'm not sure about how it reacts in Sport + mode.

If the transmission is in D and you use the paddles, it will stay in M for 30 seconds or so and then revert to D. If you are in S and use the paddles, it will stay in M until you switch to D, R, N or P.

To be clear, this is related to the automatic transmission being in "D" or "S" (sport program of the transmission) or "M" (manual mode). It has nothing to do with the driving mode (comfort, sport, sport+).

This is when the gear selector is pushed to the left (S), or when the car is in D?
