A little more Pop and Growl: Exhaust amplifying questions

Hi all,

I have been considering grabbing this OBDII Can Flap module from Burger (http://www.burgertuning.com/f_series...odule_BMW.html). I would use this primarily to open both valves while in comfort mode to get a bit more sound.

Does anyone have experience with this item? It appears to be a totally passive system and doesn't risk hurting the car, but I am pretty neurotic so I'm interested to poll the community. (Yes, I know it's expensive, but let's assume that doesn't bother me for the moment).

Any thoughts are welcome!

Would this accomplish the same thing, for free?

I think so - but if you DO want to quiet it down, you have to crawl under your car. I would pay a few hundred dollars for the convenience.

Not to pay devils advocate because you seem to be willing to pay for it.. but it is not nearly as involved as you might think. The connector is easily accessible by reaching behind the rear driver side wheel, all that is required is that you get on one knee and peer under, no jacking of the car required. I would want to keep my OBD2 port handy for other things.

How did you secure the loose connector after you unplugged?

I personally did not do the mod but I have replaced the exhaust on my car three times so I know just how easy it is to get to. I suppose you could zip tie it to one of the exhaust supports back there out of the way or, if you wanted to maybe put it on kind of a bungee cord so that you can pull it down and connect it/disconnect it whenever you want to do the mod but not having it dangling when it's not plugged in.

once under the car you will have a few places to tuck it behind. I did it on my with no issues.

Also look into the cg precision valve controller. The advantage over the canflap is it does not take up your obd port.

I can confirm that it will leave a shadow code when you remove the sensor so if you're ok with that I would go ahead and do it. It somewhat of a negligible code so most dealerships will ignore it.

Thanks! I actually spoke with these guys and they were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. I think I'll manually disconnect the actuator (After the valve is open) and see how it sounds. If I like it, I'll order the CG.

If I don't like it, does it matter whether the valve is open or closed when I plug it back in?!

Is the code cleared if you plug it back in?

no, only way to delete it is at dealership, BT cable, JB's OBD CAN Moduke, or if you have a JB4 that auto-deletes.
