Sport Cat Options

Hi everyone. I wanted to start a thread to help people and myself choose the right sport cat. The 5 things I'm interested in are power, sound, quality, fitment, and price. Hopefully guys will jump in with their 2 cents and I can keep an updated list going.

-Fabspeed catted dp
200 cell cat

-Evolution Racewerks catted dp
200 cell cat

-HJS EU6 catted dp
dual chamber cat

Are all catted dps going to offer the same power? Do some sound different due to different material use/flow properties? Do most dps use the same cat (200 cells), or are there higher/lower quality option?

You can add to the list HJS EU6 catted downpipe: (my review here)

Keeps car euro 6 compliant, so no problem with emissions, CEL,...

Very nice sound note.

Designed by HJS themselves, world leading sportcat manufacturer, so I guess they know what they do...

They don't offer the same cats.

HJS downpipe has its own dual chamber specific cat to keep car euro 6 compliant.

Fabspeed uses a single chamber HJS 200 cell cat.

Maybe but it reads like Fabspeed/HJS single chamber product doesn't cause a CEL either so not sure what the relevance of the dual chamber/Euro6 is when OP is based in the USA....

Are you sure HJS dual chamber Euro6 is 300CPI ? I ask as HJS website makes reference to only 200CPI. Also, if higher CPI then starts reduces flowrates compared to stock [400-500CPI] cat

It depends basically of the purpose of the cat in the catted downpipe:
- No CEL?
- Pass emissions control?

I was thinking also that it was a 200cpsi cat. I then specifically ask HJS about it and they confirmed that it was a 300cpsi cat.

Just read my review of HJS downpipe I mentioned above.

Stock cats are the same for EU6 cars and US cars.

Stock cats are a dual chamber cats, the former chamber having higher density (600-800?) compared to the second one (400-600?).

HJS is the manufacturer of the cats and the downpipe that embeds them. Their downpipe has an ECE homologation that keeps car EU6 compliant with the guarantee of no CEL and emissions passed.

I reckon that an ECE homologation is not relevant in the USA but, first I guess this forum is not limited to USA and then euro 6 is quite restrictive so I guess also that this should be comparable with US emissions restrictions.

I'm not here to fight against Fabspeed products in any way.

Fabspeed uses HJS cats and has integrated a lambda spacer in its downpipe, basically to fool the DME and currently not trigger a CEL...

But there is no guarantee that you will pass emissions.

I'm very happy with HJS cat but I may have been very happy also with Fabspeed one.

But I'm just more confident with HJS designing a specific cat for the downpipe, the downpipe itself for the same price tag. Period.

However, what would be interesting is to measure on the same car the following on those different catted downpipes:
- Real emissions
- Flow
- Noise
- Power/Torque

and see what the facts are.

AR Design makes a sport cat. I'm happy with it so far.

I know this is an old post, but I'm looking to get a sports cat and wondering if you have had problems with AR Design? Has the CEL light come on? If not, are you running a chip or stock?

Get Fabspeed. I seen ER giving faults, and Fabspeed being abit more expensive than others cuz they actually use a HJS core, and its cheaper than HJS.

CG Precision offers the DS-1 sport cat, which I think actually undercuts all other catted options.

Unfortunately I've been unable to find any information on how it performs with our cars, and haven't been able to get in touch with anyone there.

+1, I love mine, no CEL and its a easy install. Visual inspection of this thing first hand and it looks very well crafted.

Thank you for the kind words everyone!

We use a 200 cell HJS HD catalyst which offers maximum flow without triggering any check engine lights. HJS makes the best cats and we're proud to incorporate them into our components. The HD catalysts are built for heavy duty usage with extra provisions to prevent premature failure, especially the cat disintegrating or coming loose from the metal matrix. Our forum rep Bobby has an M235i which has been running all Fabspeed components for well over a year with no issues! We've battle tested this cat extensively and we're proud of the results!

The HJS downpipe utilizes a dual chamber, 300 cell catalyst. This design meets the strict Euro 6 compliance standards and was designed for European markets. We are the second largest HJS distributor in the world and can get you one if you desire. We've sold several to our European shops and have had no complaints.

As always if you have any questions, we're here!

If you have a Jb4 and looking for catted downpipe, go with Wagner.

If you do not have a Jb4, go with Fabspeed catted

Is this because of th jb4 not throwing a cel? Why not just catless

Some prefer catted because of the fuel smell and less aggressive exhaust sound

Do you expect to have an offering for cat downpipe and exhaust for the 240/B58 any time soon?

It looks like you have a dp for the 440 which I believe also uses the B58 engine
