In actuality for full kit you need:

1. Escort 360 running escort app (like professional Waze)
2. Laser jammer
3. Waze
4. Police scanner
5. CB radio

Encouraged but not mandatory would be thermal camera, spotter planes, convoy of lead cars and decoys, and a bit of luck.

OR do the sensible thing and only drive balls out on a track.

Not driving the wheels off it, but it just wants to cruise at 80mph... Still enough to land a big fine when the speed limit is only 55.

That's what I found with the 4 cyl., too. It's not that it needs to go 100+, but it wants to go 80--on any road!

Still torn about what to do. I tried out the Benz and it's definitely the better highway car, but when my boss (who makes 5x more than me, at least, and has been here for 30 years) is pulling up to work in a stripper 228i, I don't think it'd look great if the new hire shows up in a Benz that's almost a foot longer and cost 10k more new. There are a number of ways it looks bad, and not a lot of ways it looks okay. Maybe a base suspension 2? Or an ATS?

I wouldn't sweat it too much. My boss drives a complete piece of shit. Some people just don't care about cars.

I wouldn't get something super flashy but as long as you stick to a reasonable understated car you will be fine. Think M235 vs M2, just something a little more stealth.

Yeah, my concern with the Benz is that it isn't that understated; it looks bigger than it is because of the long doors (and it's as big as the E class used to be), and styling-wise, it's clearly trying to look expensive. (https://images.autotrader.com/hn/c/0...63fcd3661d.jpg)

The 2 is the right size for me, and it also looks good without saying HEY LOOK AT ME.

Been really successful with my Escort Redline (360, BT all that), with the fine tuned settings for my region. Makes no mistakes! But wasn't cheap

Glad to live in an area that supports them, most other provinces have laws against using radar detector/jammers and fine heavily for having one. Has probably kept me from being impounded, at least once, as it only takes 40km/h over the limit, to lose your car for a week (25mph, only!)... And let's just say doing one basic JB4 log, you can't go past 2nd gear, anywhere!! (legally)

Update: I tried out a base suspension 230i. That's the right car for me. It still corners well and feels nimble, but it's more composed on the highway and comfortable for long cruises. H/K sounds good too.

That spec car w/o firmer suspension does drive great.

This is why I opted for the 228i 6MT with Premium, lights, and Cold Weather. Pretty much the perfect commuter/daily.
