I'm sure I'm not the only one but I'm really not happy with the new 2 series/4 series names. Can you imagine a 235i or a 435i, wtf? Also, I love 3 series coupe/M3 coupe range and can't believe that they will be using the 4 series name instead. M4 coupe?

Dr. Friedrich Nitschke (BMW M GmbH's new managing director) told Autoexpress in an earlier interview: “In the 1M Coupe, we have a starter car for the M Division, and we are continuing to develop this project. Such models must be sporty, and offer extraordinarily low fuel consumption. This is something we could achieve with the M2. I think the 1M Coupe proves there is room for an M2, a coupe."

Does anyone else read(think!) 1M CSL ??? I do!

Riddle me this, if we went back in time and told former heads of ///M division and its senior engineers that future ///Ms would share engines almost exactly the same as the productions series (current 1M) and many parts from other ///Ms (current 1M & ///M3 as well as future) what do you think their reaction would be?

Make the M2 special in its own way, just as the ///M5 and ///M3 are both special in their own ways.

Cheers,

If you are meaning commonality then you are on the right track as the F20 and F30 share the same modular matrix , so this will feature within the 2er and 4er Coupes too.

As of the next generation M1 or M2? It will stick to it's basic formula but will have scope for further enhancement. But , especially for weight purposes the car will resort to a four cylinder Turbo. The power output will stick closely to around todays car 340HP allowing the M3 to have a considerable gap with around over 100HP with it's all new six cylinder engine.

Thanx for the info Scott26.

Taking the info from the i8- 3 cyl motor, roughly double (6cyl) the hp would be in the 440 hp (330 kw) range. 100 hp more than the M2- as per Scott.

Reading between the lines- next m3- tri turbo, inline six, 330kw, lots of CFRP body parts- Sign me up!!!

I would go with blue, would look like an extension to the chassis as you stated I think it would blend well and give some life to the inside instead of a boring black or gray

I'd like to think it will be 2.3L, just like the E30 M3.

So with standard tune on the standard 2 the car would be a BMW 222i

I know you were just joking but there wouldn't be a standard tune. It would be an S20B22, derived from the standard N20B20. In reality it could just as likely be 2.0L like the current N20, too. I'd give it 50/50.

Takes a decent size turbo to pull 340hp out of a 2L engine. The EVO X can get that much with just a tune, but it's also fairly laggy. It'd be nice if they created a turbo 4 specifically for the M2, not just an N20 with an upgraded turbo.

Twin turbo'ing will solve both your power issues and lag issues. I expect a 4 cylinder twin turbo set up with M3 suspension, dct, brakes, and similar CFRP panels such as the hood, roof, and trim.

Seems like future Ms will be about choosing a motor first then a style as they will all be fairly similiar (1M/M3) (X5M/X6M) (M5/M6)
