I'm afraid of jack stands :( How do you work on your car?
I guess I've watched too many Final Destination movies or something, but I have this weird fear of the car falling off of the jack stand and onto my delicate skull. I just don't trust the little stand to hold the car up as I'm working underneath it.
I plan on getting the jack pads found in the link below, but what should I rest the car on? I thought about getting ramps or something. What do you guys do? http://burgertuning.com/BMW_jack_pad_adapter.html

For an oil change? Rhino Ramps (and I had to build little mini-ramps from 2x12 boards to get onto the Rhino Ramps without scraping the front air dam).
Wheel changes? On the jack, with no body part underneath. Anything else? I don't, but a garage with a 2-post lift is on the list of things we're saving for. CWB over at the other site has and likes this: http://www.bendpak.com/car-lifts/spe...ts/md-6xp.aspx http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho....php?p=9148604 I've thought of getting one, but have no convenient place to store it.

Yeah, mainly concerned with anything that requires me to be under the car. Wheels or whatnot I'll use a jack stand or even the jack if it's gonna be quick but I try to avoid that if possible. I'll look into those ramps. Thanks!

I generally do not use more than 2 jack stands when working on a car, and if installed correctly they are pretty stable (you would not be able to push the car hard enough to knock it off of them.)
One thing I often do is put any wheel I take off under the car, so it cant fall farther than the wheel allows. |

Exact same fear. Use ramps instead. Or I use a combination of jacks, jack stands, books, anything that could prop the car up. Basically about 9 backups just in case.

Oil/fluid changes (I plan on changing fluids after break-in), installing front lip spoiler, installing exhaust, etc.

I use my lift but the jack pads are great to limit damage to the car. I got a set of four for under $20 on eBay.
And they store perfectly stacked here in the trunk. If you lift with a jack get a good one. My best is the AC hydraulic. Pricey but it is a lifetime product you can trust. Made in Denmark. I've found nothing better than ESCO "flat top" jack stands.

I also use the ESCO jack stands. They are very solid and I would trust them more than any of the plastic ramps out there. They don't damage the jack pads when used alone, but I place a hockey puck between the stand and the jack pad to protect both the jack stand and the jack pad.
I also have a pair of rhino ramps, but I don't drive on them because they would require boards to avoid scraping the bumper. Too much of a hassle. Instead I just jack up each side of the car and place the ramp (backwards, with the ramp end facing the rear of the car) under the tire. So I pretty much use them as wheel cribs. The way rhino ramps flex and creak with the car on them never made me very comfortable, so I also stick the jack stands under the jack pads once the car is on them. It's all unnecessarily complicated because unfortunately the F22 chassis doesn't seem to have a central jacking point up front. Very inconvenient. |

I assumed that the flags were trophies for cars he's taken down.

I use...jackstands, plus the jack as an emergency catch.
I'm still alive...rhino ramps are fine if you're just doing an oil change (which I've never done on this car).
