And: whenever I quote one, I quote comparison stats from the same pub. This is even more important. It minimizes methodology skew, as well as the chance that naysayers and disbelievers such as @Mr Carrots will have any ammo.

What's so hard to believe? The auto RWD M235 and M240 have done lower to mid-4s. Heck, even the 6MT M235 does 4.6. The 8 speed auto makes the most of the turbo powerband and there's no boost lost on shifts. A 2009-2013 WRX 5MT can do 0-60 in the 4.7-4.8 range with a hard launch. That car weighs 3,250lbs and makes around 240whp/240wtq stock. A 228i weighs around the same (maybe a little less) and the makes the same power to the wheels. Considering the 8AT, you can brake torque and have boost at the launch, it's lightning shifts, ideal gearing, and no boost loss on shifts, it's not surprising or unrealistic to think that it can do upper 4 to lower 5 second 0-60s. In contrast, the 228i 6MTs have typically shown mid-5 0-60s. No being able to generate boost on the launch, the longer gearing, and slower human shifting slow the 6MT cars down in a drag race.

0-60 mph test results are dependent on too many variables in terms of driver, road surface, weather, etc. A better indication of a car's capabilities in a straight line is 0-100-0 mph. An M240i should take slightly over 15 secs. The fastest road cars will just make it in under 10 secs.

I'll probably be testing this theory out myself as I can find a couple local CPO M sport + handling package 228's w/ the ZF 8 speed. I suppose it could make my shitty Bay Area stop and go commute better...

One of the U.S. buff books does a rolling start, something like 5 mph to 70 mph. I think this particular test is good in that it removes a lot of the launch/surface variables, and emulates more of a spirited street start, where you're easing it off the line to maintain traction and then adding more power. |

With JB4 I can get to 90mph in 7.9 seconds (that was my 1/8 mile trap/time, so probably mid 9's 0-100. I'd guess a stock one would be around 10 flat.

Likely w/ any tune the time should drop squarely into the 9 second range for 0-100 MPH runs IMO. |

I'm shooting for a 7.5 1/8 mile by fall. That 7.9 was a 1.98 sixty, so I can shave an easy .15 there with 265's on the rear. Then I'm hoping for another .20-.25 with a catless DP and switch to Map 2. Should be good for 7.5 and 12 flat. RWD 340i's are hitting 12 flat and we're what, 100-150 lbs lighter?

I think that's about right. Perhaps poking down into the 3.9 or lower 0-60 sec range and 11.9 or better 1/4 mile times, which IMO is getting close to the "creamier" sports car categories. All from a little unassuming BMW $50K coupe.

I daily drive my 6MT 228. I don't have the M Sport or Track stuff but Premium, Cold Weather, Lights and love my car. The only thing lacking is the support of the non sport seats which are standard now. 61K miles and still kicking. I've had the BMS Stage 1 on my car for 10K miles and ditched the RF tires. Long road trips no problem, track days as well.

I've had my 235 for 18 months or so and I really like the ZF8. Often I find myself using the paddle shifters for a change and they are a lot of fun. I'm not sure I'd want to go back to a manual now. Plus, the ZF8 is faster than the manual
